Nietzsche said that the destiny of Europe is either nihilism or it must involve embracing “philosophers of the future.”
With such provocative statements, Nietzsche inspired artists as well as intellectuals, scientists as well as statesmen, & the power of his rhetoric & his arguments was transmitted to a vast number of contradictory movements, from those passionate for ancient Greek tragedy to modern Progressive activists, from post-modern or deconstructionist theories to scientific futurism.
Nietzsche was the last truly European spirit, whose influence crossed all borders & spread around the world. He predicted the future of world wars & “planetary culture” & helped to make that future, which is our present, real. We “good Europeans” should go back to Nietzsche, to look at ourselves thorough his eyes, to study political philosophy, to come to understand ourselves.
