The Essence of Life – How Conservative Values Shape Our Future autumn seminar

27-29 September 2024

The Hungarian Scruton Hub is pleased to present “The Essence of Life – How Conservative
Values Shape Our Future?” autumn school, a 3-day intensive programme designed to
introduce participants to the values and philosophical thinking of Sir Roger Scruton.
The programme is open for all hungarian and foreigner under-, and postgraduates, PhD
students and young professionals who are interested in Sir Roger Scruton’s political and
philosophical thoughts.
As Roger Scruton has lived on their farm, in a calm, natural enviroment for cca. 30 years, we also
would like to highlight our natural treasures of our country. Therefore the autumn school will
take place away from the Capital City, at Lake Balaton, at one of the most beautiful locations
of Hungary.
Participants will attend lectures and panel discussions led by expert scholars, participate in
dinners and talks with special guests, and enjoy the neighbourhood, Hungary’s beautiful
countryside, having interesting discussions with each other. A visit to a hungarian winery/
traditional farm, will also be included in the programme.
The lectures themselves will focus on topics such as basic conservative values, like family,
oikophilia, nationstate, Christianity and enviroment protection, sustainable conservatism etc.

The five upcoming lectures will be:
● No future without families / The Future starts with healthy families
● The place where we are home
● Culture or identity? Christianity in the 21st century
● Nation: The Root of Freedom?
● Sustainable conservatism

Students will be expected to actively participate in discussions and contribute to the seminar’s
collaborative learning environment.
During the programme we can provide three meals per day and accommodation for two
nights. Applications are welcomed on the scrutonhub@scruton.hu . We are waiting for a CV
and a 1 page motivation letter from each applicants about their intentions and motivation on
participating in our programme, how they found our work and how they got to know Sir
Roger Scruton’s philosophy.
